Double shaft lime kiln is a type of parallel-flow regenerative lime kiln. It consists of two vertical calcination chambers, which are interconnected at the bottom by a channel. The two calcination chambers operate alternately; when one chamber calcines limestone, the other preheats the limestone. High-temperature gases flow co-currently with the limestone in the calcination chamber and then pass through the connecting channel into the preheating chamber to preheat the limestone. At this time, the preheating chamber acts as a highly efficient regenerator, maximizing the utilization of the heat from the kiln’s flue gas. Afterward, the functions of the two kiln chambers will switch, and the gas flow direction will also reverse. The double shaft lime kiln is highly efficient and energy-saving, making it the preferred choice for lime calcination plants and the ideal method for producing highly reactive quicklime.
AGICO is a professional cement equipment and lime production equipment manufacturer. The double-shaft lime kiln is one of our hot-selling vertical lime kilns. Its output is stable and large, with a daily lime calcination capacity of up to 1,000 tons. It is suitable for gas, liquid, or powdered solid fuels, as well as various combinations of these fuels. After years of research, AGICO, combining practical production experience, has developed an upgraded version of the double shaft kiln. This new model overcomes the shortcomings of the previous generation, improves service life, reduces production costs, and has received widespread praise from customers.

Double Shaft Kiln Calcination Process
After screening and washing, the limestone is transported by a belt conveyor to the raw material silo for storage. The limestone in the raw material silo is weighed by a weighing hopper and then transported by an elevator to the transition silo at the top of the kiln. It is then fed into the two kiln chambers separately through a vibrating feeder and feed valves.
In the calcination chamber, the calcination temperature ranges from 900 to 1200°C. The combustion air enters from the kiln top and flows downward under the effect of pressure difference. When it reaches the calcination zone, it mixes with the fuel delivered by the evenly distributed lances. Since the limestone here has already reached a high temperature, when the air-fuel mixture comes into contact with the limestone, it ignites immediately. The air-fuel mixture burns while simultaneously flowing downward along with its combustion products and the limestone. By the time it reaches the end of the calcination zone, the temperature of the combustion exhaust gases has relatively decreased. The calcined lime enters the cooling zone, where it meets the cool air entering from the kiln bottom, undergoing heat exchange. This process reduces the lime temperature to 80–100°C before it is discharged from the kiln bottom. After completing the heat exchange, the cold air heats up and rises to the connecting channel. It mixes with the combustion exhaust gases and enters the preheating chamber. In the preheating chamber, the exhaust gases rise from the bottom to the top. When reaching the preheating zone, they contact the limestone for heat exchange and then exit from the kiln top. After absorbing the residual heat from the exhaust gases, the limestone increases in temperature and stores the heat, ready for the next calcination cycle.
Approximately every 12 minutes, the cycle switches, and the functions of the calcining chamber and preheating chamber are reversed. Corresponding equipment valves and mechanisms change direction, and the supply of combustion air and cooling air to the kiln is stopped.

Highlights Of AGICO Double Shaft Kiln
AGICO can manufacture double shaft lime kilns in either square or circular shapes based on the required production capacity and the particle size of the limestone.
The double shaft lime kiln features two main characteristics: co-current flow and heat recovery. The lime produced can easily meet the premium metallurgical lime standards, and it is currently the most energy-efficient among all lime kiln types.
The AGICO double shaft lime kiln can use a variety of fuels, including blast furnace gas, converter gas, and coke oven gas from the steel industry, as well as acetylene furnace tail gas from the acetylene industry, and other fuels such as natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, heavy oil, and pulverized coal.
The interior of the kiln body is lined with different types of refractory materials according to different working zones and temperatures to meet the specific use needs of each section.
The AGICO double shaft lime kiln uses a PLC automatic control system, which enables centralized control and monitoring of production conditions and equipment operation, ensuring the kiln operates safely and efficiently.
